Red Heart Yarn Review

 

 

2 weeks ago, I was sent a few skeins of yarn from Red Heart.  WHOOOO HOOO!!  All of you know how much I LOVE yarn!!!  I was asked to use and review the yarn. How fun is that??!!

1 - Red Heart Boutique Swanky

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Swanky is a basic yarn with oval shaped sequins dyed to match for a stunning look. 

• Weight Category: 4
• Content: 62% Acrylic, 38% Polyester
• Putup: 3.5 ounces/100 grams, 202yd/185m
• Gauge:
  • knit: 23s x 28r = 4x4in/10x10cm on size US6/4mm needles
  • Crochet: 17sc x 22r = 4x4in/10x10cm on size H8/5mm hook
• Dyelotted: We try, but are not always able to match dyelots
• Care: Hand wash, dry flat, do not bleach, do not iron, do not dry clean

PROS:

When I first saw this yarn, I was a little worried the sequins might be a nightmare.  But, as soon as I started crocheting, it was so easy. 

It is delicate and soft to touch.....it would be a great yarn to use for making wearable items.

I love any yarn with texture....and this did not disappoint.  With the sequins and texture of this yarn, it makes a great statement.

 

CONS:

This is a light worsted weight yarn.  It does not feel like a true worsted.  Keep that in mind when crocheting to gauge.

The strands, that make up the yarn, snag easily.  Just be careful when using.

 

Overall.....I really enjoyed using this yarn.  I even designed a scarf pattern with it.:)    The "Swanky" Scarf.  Because the yarn is so light weight, it makes a great scarf for Spring and early Summer.

PROS: 

I LOVE this stuff!!!  This is my favorite item I received from Red Heart.  Well, if choosing between the Sashay Yarns or this....I would choose the Sassy Fabric!! It creates such a stunning and unique look!!

So quick and easy to work up.  Anyone can make this cute scarf....beginner or advanced.  It's fun for all!!

I love all the available colors.

 

CONS:

The only thing I found difficult,,,,,was when pulling the fabric from the ball, it started to twist and twist and twist.  I spent more time untwisting, than I did crocheting the scarf!!

 

As, you can tell....I really did LOVE this fabric!! What a fun and stylish item!!!  I will be making more!!:)

PROS: 
This is so cool!!!  This yarn was easy to work with and fun at the same time!!  Great to wear outside when reflective gear is a must!!!

CONS:  I would like this yarn in a worsted weight also.  Think of all the possibilities???

4 - Red Heart Heads Up

PROS: 
I think this yarn is perfect for Hats!!  The texture is so soft, and very durable!!!
It comes in so many great colors...mixing and matching them would be so fun!! 

CONS:
With all the strands that make up the yarn....it gets snagged on the hook very easily. 

Overall...I do like this yarn.  The texture and feel is the best part!!  However, it took me longer to crochet with it because of it getting caught on the hook a lot.

PROS: 

Super fun to work with!!  It is soft and has LOTS of great texture!!!  Fun to see the change in colors and it goes along!!

CONS:
Wish it was available in worsted weight.  Can you tell I'm a worsted girl??

I have not been able to use this yarn yet.  Finding something shouldn't be hard at all....I will keep you updated when I use it:)  It looks fun to use!!  I was thinking....maybe some espadrille baby sandals:)
